Director's Message

Message from Seymour Community Library's Director, Joyce Simmons

Hello, my name is Joyce Simmons.  I am a retired teacher, having taught for 11 years in Kansas and 21 years in Seymour, Missouri.  I have always loved the library and treasure memories of my mom taking us to the Carnegie Library in Leavenworth, KS, working as a student aide in David Brewer Elementary Library in 5th & 6th grade and spending many hours in the library as a JH student.

I graduated from Emporia State University with a BSE in Elementary/Special Education and followed by a Master's degree in Learning Disabilities & Reading Specialties.

It is my pleasure to be the director of the Seymour Community Library since mid-May 2021.   I am meeting so many friendly people and enjoy sharing our library with them.

The Seymour Community Library is part of the Missouri Evergreen consortium which connects us to libraries all over the state.  This allows us access to over 5 million items you can request to check out!  Yes, there is an app for that!  New libraries are being added every couple of months.

We also have an app for Beanstack, which is an online web-based reading challenge program for all ages.

We have Overdrive, for ebook online check-outs, and a free Driver's Ed online program.

We are also working with The Friends of the Seymour Community Library to provide many programs and activities.  Our first StoryWalk during the Apple Festival was a big success! Several more StoryWalks are planned for the near future.

By working with our Library Board and our City Administration, we are striving to make The Seymour Community Library the best it can be for our patrons!

We look forward to serving you, so stop by and check us out!
